Your challenge is to write 500 – 1,000 words in response to the following prompt in honor of April Fool’s Day
Prompt: The main plot must revolve around trickery or someone being fooled
DUE DATE: March 28, 2025 at 11:59pm
Winners will be announced at the May Monthly Meeting on Thursday, May 1, 2025
Submissions do not need to be a complete work and may be of any genre. Entries to this month’s contest will be judged based on the following criteria:
- Cleverness – Is the trickery/foolery clever and surprising?
- Momentum/Pacing – Does the piece have forward momentum and compel the reader to find out what happens next
- Setting – Is the reader effectively transported into the setting
- Style – Does the entry excel in terms of craft
Rules:
- Entrants must be current members of the San Antonio Writers Guild
- Entrants should paste their entries into the body of the email
- Entries should be sent via email to [email protected]
- Entries that exceed the word count will be cut off at the world count limit
- Entries will be scored by a panel of three judges who will not know the identity of the contributing authors whose works they are judging. Judges are not to confer with other judges regarding the scoring of the entries
- Judges will be appointed by the SAWG Board of Directors
- Judges are not permitted to enter the contest
- The entry with the highest average score will be deemed the winner
Prizes:
The winning entry will receive a cash prize in the amount of $100.
The second-place entry will receive $50.
In the unlikely event of tie, the prize will be split evenly with entrants tied for the
highest score.
